This slow growing European fan palm, a variant of Chamaerops humilis, originates from the Atlas mountains in Morocco where it grows at altitudes up to 1,700 m (5,600′) makes an excellent, architectural focal point in any garden. It is naturally slow growing and rarely exceeds head height. The foliage of this variety is a pale silvery-blue colour which gets even more marked with heat and sunshine and is the perfect complement to pastel coloured perennials and bedding plants. Given a warm, sheltered position it's safe to plant outside, is very wind tolerant and is also suitable for exposed or coastal gardens. In really cold areas it's best grown in a large tub and brought indoors during the winter.
