Dasylirion longissimum (Mexican Grass Tree)

From: £119.99 - £184.99

One for the exotic garden, this very spectacular, Mexican, tree-like succulent (with a trunk) has a spray of stiff, arching, strap-like leaves. Eventually, its single trunk can grow to 6 feet or more, topped by a 6 foot wide rounded head of leaves. There is a dramatic summer show of bell-like white flowers. The only way to grow it in the UK is in a container, stood outside in a sheltered sunny position over summer. Hardy down to around -12°C and tolerates frost and wind.
While in active growth give it a regular drink of water, but do so only occasionally over winter while dormant (in fact the colder the winter conditions, the drier it needs to be kept). Make sure that the compost has plenty of added grit for free-drainage because the only thing they will not tolerate is wet feet!

Please note how these trunks are measured from the soil level to the apex (center of the growing point) - just the way the suppliers do it! The amount of visible trunk depends on how deep it has been planted in the pot.
