Also known as the Canary Island Date Palm (CIDP), this spiky looking plant has a distinctly Mediterranean look, This adaptable palm from
the Canary Islands can be used in the home, the conservatory, or
planted out in full sun in the sheltered garden, where, when mature, it
can withstand frosts to around -5C. Rich, loamy soil, together with plenty of
water and feed especially during the summer months are all it requires.
Makes a wonderful terrace plant, and its Mediterranean look can be
enhanced if it is planted in a terracotta pot. When it gets bigger,
plant it out in a sunny spot, and give it lots of room. Popular and
easy, it is quite fast growing and will reach a good size in a number of
years. Good 'beginner's' palm. These are small starter specimens - an ideal, affordable, gift for anyone starting up as a 'palmist'.
